"Justin
Verity. Behind the window he sits, watching the sun
melt into the horizon, wondering on which side of
the window the sun really sets..."
Such
are the words that lead us into The Realm of Never
for the very first time. Justin Verity is a recluse
who leads the viewer into his world where there are
no telephones, no technology, nothing to link him
to the outside world, which he perceives as a movie:
bits and pieces of illusion glued together to create
a reality. "Checking the gate" on that movie,
he describes the institutions of life from keeping
up with the Joneses, to the paradox of love and marriage;
the Gods of business, and the dehumanizing effects
of technology; and how when they are employed falsely
and opportunistically, they become our personal prisons.
Yet for that we are rewarded with the false sense
of security that is the real sense of security: material
gain, validation, acceptance; i.e. love. But for those
like Justin Verity, who know that for life to truly
begin, the "movie" first must end, there
is no fanfare. Only a silent dignity and acid knowledge
of what most others will never learn. For Justin Verity
isn't just a recluse. He is a convict in the "home
for the sane," the millennium's answer to those
who know and embrace the truth.
